It’s a very informal group that originally came together to raise money for a new kitchen and better toilet facilities at St John’s. That mission was successfully accomplished but the group continued, grew and flourished and now has over 20 members.
We meet about once a month usually on Tuesdays in the church. The kettle goes on and we decide what needs doing. It can be planning events, sewing and knitting articles to sell on our various stalls, creating decorations, making jam, cleaning out the gallery, making swags for the Dickensian Market. We never run out of jobs!
Oh yes. It’s definitely not all work and no play. There have been jolly trips to Gawsworth Hall, Ashbourne Garden Centre, New Mills Museum etc. The social side is important to us all and there’s always support for anyone having a difficult time.
We’d like to welcome more people into St John’s through the events we hold and by providing refreshments for other gatherings e.g. the Wells Dressing Queen’s ceremony, Buxton Musical Society concerts and Buxton Festival and Fringe events.
We also aim to support more charities both local and national.
But, and it’s a big but, what we hope for most is that you will join our merry band. Please think about it, but not for too long! Just come along you’d be most welcome.
